bought some beaclean disinfectant today for the viv and it says it's suitable for the water bowl.directions for use are spray and leave to dry and no need to rinse,is this ok for the water bowle as i dont like the idea of not rinsing it.ingredients are 20-25% ethanol 3-5%sodiumlaureth sulphate.would you still rince and what do you use.

i use 'keep it clean' which is a cleaner/deodorant/disinfectant.

all i do is mix it with water and use it that way to clean the viv, for water bowls, i wash them in the sink with hot water and 'KIC' and rinse after anyway.

Ethanol is just alcohol, so once its dried it'd be gone. Not sure about the Sodium Laureth Sulphate, but you see it in most soaps.

I use "keep it clean" aswell. I clean everything with hot water, and then use KIC and leave it to dry. I rinse off the water bowls once its dry though.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate a.k.a. Sodium Dodecile Sulfate (or SDS for short). We use it when we extract DNA from bacteria. It works by disrupting the cellular membrane of the bacteria. Pretty fatal for them but no problem for us advanced multicellular organisms. I would give the bowl a quick rinse under the tap just to be on the safe side but I can't see that it would cause snakey any major problems

See B.E. us students are good for something

p.s. I just wash Sherman's bowl the same as the other washing up. Only difference being that I rinse it more thoroughly than our mugs.

Depends on where you live and who supplies you with tap water. Ask your water provider. They'll be able to tell you what they are putting in it. Portsmouth Water made a big old hoo ha about the fact that they were no longer fluorinating the water supply so ours is fine down here but I don't think it has rolled out nationwide yet.

Most people give tap water to their snakes with no ill effects. Some boil it and let it cool first before giving to the snakes. Some use it straight from the tap.

I give mine bottled water, but my snakes are special !

I use KIC but I'm the same, I still rinse it thoroughly afterwards. Tap water for their bowls too.

I use tap for most, but bottled for little baby snakes.

I clean out every 1 to 6 weeks depending on the snake- dirty kings like Nagini couldn't last 2 weeks without a clean out, whereas Cyd the corn can be left 6 weeks and I still feel like I'm cleaning a clean viv. I royal averages at about once a month though
