Having decided against attempting to breed royals, can any of you recommend a species of snakes that would be a good one to keep. It must be good with kids, i.e. not too nervous/twitchy/aggressive, and preferably active during the day. |

Am i right in thinking hoggies are active during the day (however they are venomous so maybe bad for kids)? Or has my mind been playing tricks on me again. |

lol. You're not going mad just yet Matt. Venomous but rear fanged. Did look at those. Only trouble I have there is that one of my kids is defo asthmatic and one other is a possible. Wouldn't want to risk a reaction of some kind (a la the reaction of asthmatics to being bitten by an Adder).
.....although the peace and quiet while they recover in hospital would be nice. |

My friend's King is up and about a lot during the day, but I'd just get another Royal if I were you, you don't have to breed them! |

V. true about another royal. Great temperament but the temptation would be there. |

I would have said that Sherman would be "the only gay in the village" but it just wouldn't be true cos he lives in Portsmouth |

Hoggies are active by day- diurnal? (gold star for Matty )
but kings are active ALL the time and no venomous issue either |

Just been offered a female Corn with complete set up (good times).
Problem is that she (the snake not the current owner) has an attitude the size of King Kong after drinking 12 pints of Stella dressed in Burberry (bad times).
I am more patient than the illigitimate child of Ghandi and Mother Theresa when it comes to problem animals but will I be wasting my time with her? Do they calm down again or are they stuck in their ways? |

Is there a reason for the attitude, its usually down to the owner not having the time or inclination to handle regularly, if so then all it'll take is some time. |

She said something about her buying a pair of females of which one turned out not to be. The male harrassed the hell out of the female and she's been defensive (striking at the glass, etc) ever since. |

I'd say some time and TLC should work if she was ok before. |

i nearly didn't go to see my Dumerils boa because of how the owner described her aggression, fortunately i did and i bought her and she's been an angel ever since.
have you seen her being aggressive? do you think you can handle it and have the confidence and time to put into her?
at the other side of the scale i also had a Japanese ratsnake that had been wild for a year and was just downright evil, having since spoken to other JRS owners one of them keeps his JRS for training people to do the DWA!!
generally i'd think (hope?) a corn would settle with time and correct handling |

Not met her (the snake) yet.
I've rescued a few animals before. Lots of cats, mostly from an idiotic family that we used to live near, before we re-homed them (and got the scars from the fights with them!) and also tamed, for want of a better word, a particularly, large, aggressive Shar-pai (excuse the spelling) who's previous owners had named War. Kinda makes you realise why he needed rescuing.
The corn is in no danger and not being mistreated in any way. My friend just wants to re-home it cos it's so stressed out. |

Corns should be easy to tame- if you've got the time and patience to do it |
