My royal has only just started eating, and now he has taken to trying to eat the metal tongs I fed him with, my lizard is atracted to shiny things, is this the same with some types of snake, any comments welcome

Unlikely, they have poor sight in comparison. Are you heating the rats, they are attracted to heat and smell.

Royals have terrible aim anyway, seriously, its crap. But it does improve alot when the prey is warmed up.

yeah, come to think of it, the pinkies I gave to him when he missed were heated up, but he is now eating well, however, he dd not shed in one peice, but did not take long to shed, is this a major problem and what an I do if it is?

bad shed are not a big issue really. just increase the humidity around shed time.
