I've seen your thread on RFUK. Maybe borrow a 150 wat bulb and see if it suits the viv size? |

the wattage shouldnt make a difference... the stat stops it from running at full power.
after it has reached desired temp it should only run at a fraction of wot it is rated at.
gonna put a heat reflector around it to channel more heat down and mount the fitting on another piece of 18mm board should sort it out...
will get there in the end... |

Where abouts is the stat probe in relation to the ceramic? If it's too far away then the ceramic will be fully on for some time untill it warms up where the probe is. A pulse stat would be best but you may already be using one? With a pulse once it get to temp then it will reduce the heating so the other viv shouldnt be as warm from heat transfer.

im running it on a pulse stat and i have got the probe under the heater on the back wall about 2-3 inch off the floor...
so annoying. thought it would be a simple setup and go...
i even took the guard off to see if it was not getting enough air circulation, but only took it down to 36*C on upper viv floor...

In my three foot viv i am using a pearlco 100w now the roof is hot, as in like yours was, temps hit 41 above the viv, but i have my stat directly under the ceramic and it is registering 91.2 hot end and 88 cool end
Have you tried it with another stat? |

just a thought probably wont make much difference, but how many vents do you have in your viv, in my 36x24x24 i have three vents, maybe if you only have two small ones you might be better with another couple of vents.. |

What about an angled fitting on the left side? |

Like Dave (reptiles-ink) says try moving the probe closer...we had the same problem when we first ran evra's Ceramic on the pulse stat (without her in of course) - The temps overall we're to high.
We moved the probe up closer to the ceramic and now everything is spot on... temps haven't fluctuated either and it doesn't get as hot on the top.
Here's a pic of where we have our probe (think you may have commented on it before... now you know the reason why )

if you can find me an angled ceramic fitting i will...
yeah lewy i did ask why you had it there
if i put the stat prob up higher would it make a difference, reason i ask is im setting the temp off a independent digital thermometer. i can get the temps in the viv. and in the hides wot i want. its just the above viv that is the problem...floor gets too hot.
very close to getting my persueder out and adjusting everything manualy...

If the temps are right below then maybe try insulating the top viv floor to reflect the heat back down - Maybe some of that fire proof stuff they box radiator pipes up with like asbestos but the modern non-toxic stuff - or mdf does the same kind of thing I think - then normal waterproof chipboard over the top... might work? |

getting some thermal reflector stuff of a mate who fits firesplaces to make some kind of reflector to fit inside the guard (hopefully) and then gonna mount it on another block of wood to see if that helps. if still having problems gonna buy some 10mm polystyrene sheets/tiles and some thin ply and insulate the floor of the upper viv...
i will get there in the end... |

not hijacking this Daz, is mine in the right place on the floor under the ceramic? should i be checking the air temps in the middle of the viv?
How high is your viv Daz? mine is 24 inches so maybe why my temps are better as it is taller and has more depth.... |
