I have found several nice bits of wood today for my vivs, they are sitting in a bleach bath at the moment, but they wont fit in my oven, they are to big, so is there an alternative way instead of baking them? |

i thought about that, but is the cooking to kill off any bugs that the bleach did not kill? also i just cleaned the bark off one piece of wood and it is greenish underneath, is this ok? i think it is off either a sycamore/beech/birch or rowan...these are the trees around here |

The bleach should kill it all off, what concentration are you using, I used 10% I think. |

a good soak in 10% bleach should kill off any nasties after you've removed the bark where they're likely to be hiding |

If its green wood I wouldnt put it too close to the radiator, to much heat will split it (it doesnt take much). Dry it out slower to avoid it splitting. |

heya Anne, she fine now thanks, well and truly over 'chick pock' i've just got the latest cold-type lurgy she's brought back from nursery (and she only goes there 2 afternoons a week!!)
i'd let the wood dry for a few days first before soaking in F10 to make sure none of the ingredients react the dry it out again before putting in a viv |
