Seen that one before I think. I've seen worse, I think it was Anatess that posted it.
It's only really possible when the snake has been left with the mouse in the tank with it, live feeding can go fine if you observe.
Needless to say, horrible though. |

Yes, it takes quite a while for a mouse or rat to do that kind of damage. The snake is not just gonna sit there to be bitten. I actually had one time where I fed an ex-breeder rat to my 900g royal. Ex-breeders are more aggressive than most, I found out. This royal has been on a fast for 3 weeks. Anyway, the royal did not seem interested in the rat again - just went cruising the feeding tank looking for a way out until at one point she slipped off the side of the tank and fell on the rat who was huddled in the corner. The rat took a bite of her neck, the royal cocked her head back and wham! struck the rat right on the head and coiled before I even got the top of the tank off! It was sooo fast. I was super worried that the rat pierced the royal's neck. After she finished eating, I checked her out and I did not see any damage. But, I can definitely imagine how the rat would get aggressive and the royal would ball up instead of striking and just get chewed out. So, yeah, always always always be vigilant when feeding live. A rat cannot just run away from danger - and those who get aggressive will fight back! |

BTD posted some pics a while back of a defrost being fed to a royal and the teeth on that rat were huge. Could easily do a lot of damage. |
