i have just got some apple branches. with out putting them in the oven how can i treat them to get rid of any nasties.where i work i can get lots of branches.so can you tell me please what wood do you use. |

firs, pine and cedar should be avoided, everything else is pretty much ok if treated first. strip off the bark first, soak in 10% bleach for a few hours or ideally overnight then dry in the airing cupboard/next to a radiator. |

Taking the bark off:
Sanded:
Bleach bath time:
Power shower for a good rinse:
In the airing cupboard to dry:
Now viv ready:

We've been on a mission today- got two branches, a cool rock for the snakes, some rocks with moss on for the toads, some loose moss for the frog and some micro-beasties in pond water for the axies. Don't tell the nature conservation people |
