if i were to buy pieces of cork bark from a shop or ebay do i have to treat them like i would a branch?

I've seen it fresh-imported covered in all sorts of muck, so not sure how well shops clean it up, better safe than sorry.

all my pieces have had moss and soil on them...

scrub them in the bath to get all the crap off then pop them in the oven to kill any bugs...

What if the piece is too big for the oven? I'm not sitting there with a lighter!! Can I use boiling water in the bathtub?

Boiling water and bleach, remember to rinse thoroughly after and dry.

Avoid soft woods (Pine/Firs/Conifers/Cedar) as the sap in them can be poisonous.
