thats interseting, thought komodo's relyed on their salyva for killing thier prey as it contains so much bacteria from eating rotten prey,I watched a program saying that they usaly bite then follow thier prey waiting for it to die rather than mull it to death.

I always remember watching a David Attenborough prog about them and it was brilliant.
Lee is correct that it is the bacteria that kills the prey rather than the bites themselves.
It is hard to believe that they can only be found on that island.
It is good to hear that the breeding prog is going well as it would be devastating to see a creature such as that become extinct.
Just imagine coming face to face with a 10 foot long lizard that is fast and could kill you with just a graze from it's teeth !!!!
Fantastic creatures.

It's a very ancient Indonesian motto that is said to have descended from the even more ancient chinese proverb "When Dragon is around, do not fall to the ground"

Honest!!!

I think both mottos are spot on.
Does anyone remember this Chinese proverb, " Do not despise the snake for having no horns. For who is to say it may turn into a dragon".
It use to be said at the end of every prog of the series and was shown in the mid to late 70's.
I think it was on BBC 2 early evening.
I have never forgot it. Don't know why.
I will give you more clues if you wish.

Haha. That'll teach me to surf the dark side. Was just gonna post that answer. Good job I scrolled to the end of the thread. I used to love those two programs. Can still remember the Monkey theme tune word for word.

Colin: Was it Monkey then Harold Lloyd or the other way around?

They used to broadcast Monkey / Watermargin then some old black and white short film by Harold Lloyd. He was another Buster Keaton type that used to do all his own stunts. Only reason I can remember him is because my Dad used to come home from work just as the film finished.

He really is hanging off that clock. No CGI back then

sorry, but I don't remember Harold. Had a look at the link, but still no bells rang.
When you think how those old actors used to do all their own stunts. Amazing and it was for real.
Well that's enough on The Water Margin. I think people thought I was starting to loose it :-) or I might have for all I know.
How do you know when you have lost the plot without people telling you ?

But that's the second fatal Komodo Dragon attack in two weeks! I think they are rising up against us.
