Hi everyone, just thought I'd post a hi on here as well as the CS forums. I'm Jen from Manchester, major animal lover, new to reptile keeping but been a big fan for a while now (also massive arachnophobic!) Looking at getting my very own snakey friend very soon, although Ive convinced myself that I'm getting a corn (local has some very nice corns and anerys, and a jungle) I have to admit I'm soooooooooooo tempted to get a royal as theyre such a beautiful snake and rival my all time fave green tree python. (Was a little bit off put, as Ive always regarded these snakes as a sorta expert snake before I really started researching and taking into account of purchasing a snake as a pet)
Well, thats a little about me and my nooby snake love. Hi all :D |

Hi guys, thanks for the lovely warm welcome yet again. :) And hello again Kaz! ^-^ I'm just gonna copy and paste what I put on TCS hehe. I took mother dearest with me to check the snakes today (Ma's purchasing for me since I'm a broke stoodent ;p) and she fell in love with the hatchling Anery, however, she too also has a fondness of the Royals they have in there! so yet again, its a stuck decision. Either way I'll have to wait a coupla weeks.
They had an Amel Jungle in there, and also a normal jungle however, the owner told me theyre both extremeley snappy and he would not reccomend them as a pet which I'm a bit gutted about. :(
The guy suggested I buy a yearling as they are very good feeders and also used to human contact. I'm gonna get from Viper and Vine in prestwich manchester, I'm sure you guys have heard of it. One question my Mum put to me and wanted some reassurance on, is if we do buy the yearling or slightly older to ensure it feeds- she was worried that it wouldnt be used to US as an owner, rather than buying a hatchling. I already kinda guess that eventually it would get used to us, and would be much less stressful to get it used to us rather than not feeding!
Sorry if that didnt make sense haha.
EDIT: And yeah, I'm terrified of spiders. I mean, I appreciate they're beautiful and so cool, and I can admire from afar (and behind bulletproof glass ;p) but when they move it makes me cry. :( |

i'd definitely go for a yearling in preference to a hatchling for all the reasons the guy in the pet shop said plus you've got a better idea of their adult colouring, and they're generally less fiddley to handle. i really wouldn't worry that the snake doesn't know you yet, it will! |

Haha, bless ya. Yeah I have to say I do prefer big hairy tarantulas (stationary of course) to say a wolf spider, large house spider or some other gangly one. However, I cant say I'd react the same if I saw a chile rose on my ceiling..... |

Hmm, nice to know then. I guess I am a fan of spiders in that case, but it would NEVER leave the rub. How do you clean em? I'm also major scared of crickets/locusts :p |

well what i do is carefully remove the lid, place a pint glass over them. if i am spot cleaning then i just do it like that, but if i am doing a full clean i put a peice of cardboard under the glass and remove them lol :) fortunately they only need spot cleaning once a week and a full clean once every few months. cant handle my T's as i seemed to have ended up with the most irritable ones i could have found! i am fortunately not scared of cricket or locusts though... i find those things everywhere! i even found a mealworm in my shoe the other day. and a cricket in my bed the other morning. normally the cats get the loose ones for me, but missed them :D |
