Blood? I know this may seem really stupid since I know rats do actually contain blood :p but everytime I've seen a snake eat I've never noticed any blood. Does this happen often? I HAVE heard of it, but I thought it was when the food item was too hot. As well as being spider phobic, and generally bug phobic, I'm also blood phobic haha. I have to admit if I saw blood and guts on a regular basis it would possibly put me off. :S
Just trust that you will grow with the task! When you have bought the rats, fussed over the defrosting and heating them etc etc, you will be prepared to do all sorts of things, that you would never have dreamed of doing before, to get your snake to eat!! |

Haha, cheers for the reassurance, I-M. I know I will gradually come around to the idea of it, I've been lurking forums and theres a few newbies who seem equally apprehensive. I think the wanting for one of these gorgeous things in my home will outweigh my guilty feeling towards the rodents it feeds on. I keep trying to compare it to the food I'm eating, so hopefully it will work. |

i try and think of it as preparing a fish, only preparing a fish has more gore, so it's actually better! LOL. and i's a lot more fascinating watching the snake eat than watching the OH eat :p |

A snake will generally eat the rat whole, so there shouldn't be any gore. |

I've had pet rats, so I'm not overjoyed about the thought of them as food either. I do feel for the little guys, but at the end of the day that's what she eats. |
