Hi everyone i need some advice.

Im building a 10 box rack for my royals but im really not sure about heating.
The rack is going to be 160cm x 86cm with 10 compartments and a cupboard at the bottom. Melamine sides,top/bottom & shelves.

But how do i heat it all? I no ill need mats but do i need 1 for each box or can i run 2 strips top to bottom on 2 stats?.

Im really confused about all this if im onist.

Could i use say 7mtrs of heat cable?I
ive worked out at 7mtrs each box would have the cable run past it 3 times.

Would that be enough??

The heat cable would be more than enough most racks I've seen only have it run twice under each rub

I was thinking of running it down the back of the rub! or does it have to be under them?

I'd say 7 meters won't be enought
Unless you buy soil heat cable
As the reptile ones have 2.5 meters of cable then 4.5 of heat cable

I have 16 meters and that's just enought for my 11 tub vision v70 rack

I'd go for heat mats personally as you get to choose how many are on at a time rather than all or nothing
And if space allows go 2x5 rubs so you will only have to but 5 mats if you choose that route

I would say under them is better and as delboy said you'd have to take into account the amount of power cable before the heat cable starts. ill be using heat mats on mine for the reason del mentioned about the cable being all or nothing

No you can run multiple mats from one stat as long as the combined wattage of the mats don't exceed the stats max, id say two stats 5 mats on each would probably be fine but if you could change your design slightly so it wasn't as tall but wider to take 10 rubs on 5 shelves then you'd only need 5 mats (2 rubs on each) with one stat i posted my design on here in diy section if you look at that, im going to be using 7 mats and 2 stats for that and it will take 6 50ltr rubs on the 3 shelves side and 16 12ltr rubs on the other

What's the depth of the shelves surrey pet supplies have got 30in x 6in and 30in x 11in heat mats they should stretch one side to the other with an inch either end which will be fine as your rubs won't be right against the sides anyway

You could probably make do without the center partition which would need less heat mats, just out of curiosity have you priced materials for making that

the centre partition will just be a piece of 2x1 to give support for the front of the shelfs.
And With 12mm MDF ive got a rough cost of 85quid then the price or 10 rubs at 50quid and then 2 stats and 5matts at 120quid.

So a rough total cost of £255
