Hi guys, Not had my Royal long, but ive noticed he makes a whistling sound (sounds more like short whistles than a wheeze to me). He only makes this sound when hes being handled and not when hes slinking about doing his own thing. He didnt make this noise in the shop when i checked him over and bought him home, it started a day or two after. Ive been looking on the web for a answer and ive asked in my local rep shops. Hes had a warm bath and ive increased the temp in the viv for him and he still seems happy and lively enough and hes feeding and drinking fine also. Theres no other signs of a respiratory infection, bubbles etc. so im hoping its not that, but im not a massively experienced snake owner. I dont know if im just being paranoid that it could be an infection. None the less he is booked in at the Vets for tomorrow morning. What do you guys reckon? Thanks in advance Dan |

could be something and nothing. No bubbles/mucus/snot is a good sign. It could be a bit of loose something (skin from shed, dirt etc) stuck in the nasal passage causing the whistle |

Thanks for the reply. It does look like his last shed wasnt great as he did have a couple of very small bits of old skin on his head, not too far off his nostrils. |

I`ve seen a few of mine whistle now and again, it doesn`t always mean RI. Mucus, bubbles and holding their heads up high are the signs to look out for. If your slightly worried you can always raise the temps a little. |

He went to the vets on Tuesday. Vet was pretty happy with his health in general. Good weight, well hydrated, good heartbeat, active enough etc He could he a feint little something on his lung though, could be something or nothing. So he had some antibiotics there and hes just had some more in his feed hes just had and ive got one more injection for his next feed. The 'whistle' seems to have about gone though. |
