I haven't used this but it seems like you have to soak the substrate in water before you can use it. This might make the substrate too wet. I don't think this is going to work for a ball python setup as you really don't want to make the floor too wet. Rather, you want the air humid.
I suggest going with the simple cypress substrate and putting a big waterbowl close to the heat source. If this is not enough, you can add a container of wet sphagnum moss next to the water bowl. And if this is still not enough and you're using a ceramic heat lamp you can try to see if you can change this to another type of heat source as ceramic heat lamps likes to suck humidity.
By the way, how are you measuring your humidity? |

| Yea i raed that cypress is good and this is made from cypress so thot if i drained the water put of it as much as i possibly can it would hold humidity a bit more if i spray the viv come shedding time ? |

Orchid bark is good for humidity. A lot of people I know use it for their snakes.  |

you dont need to keep the humidity up for royal's household humidity os around 50-60% which is fine for them.
aspen or orchid bark is fine but if using orchid bark rinse it with water an bake it in the oven to get rid of any nastie's, i didnt do this an now have some type of mite's in with my afrock an burm |

| Yea but its just my pastel is due shed soon (his eyes have gone cloudy) and trying to raise the humidity to around 70% is an absolute nightmare as i said im forever spraying his viv and evan normally the humidity in the viv is around 30/40% so i need something to raise it a bit i may get some and let it dry out for around a week before i decide to use it its only 3quid so its not going to break th bank :) |

ah right i put a damp flannel on the hot hide an give it a good spray once a day an spray the wall's twice a day when mine are in shed.
where do you have the humidity probe in the viv? |

| When my royals come to shed all I do is wait for the eyes to go blue and then clear back to normal. From this point they normally shed in about 2-3 days and this is when I spray the RUB once a day all over. Never had a bad shed using this technique. |
