Hi there Im busy building my vivarium it's 4ft/20in/20in I have a couple of questions for you's ? What wattage heat lamp should I use ? With it being a large vivarium and the snake being small would it be ok to put a heat matt inside coverd with 3ml Perspex under the hide ? Should I make a little basking area for the snake as I've seen people with them inside there vivariums ?

Hi there, i would use either a ceramic heater on a pulse stat, or a 150 watt ir bulb on a dimmer stat, you will not require the heat mat, you can make a basking platform if you like, but if your royal is anything like mine he rarley sits basking , well not whilst im watching anyway.

Ceramic on one side 150 watt should be fine, with a guard and stat. You won't need a heatmat :)A light or LED lighting might help, seeing as it's a big viv.Which you should fill with logs, fake plants etc etc.

But...does that tiny little snake really need a 4 foot viv?

I'm not putting him in it straight away I'm just getting it ready earlier so I do t have to rush around and get it done when its big. And I know a 3 ft viv will be ok for it but I'm putting fake scenery on the walls so I've made it a bit bigger

That is really cool! iv seen Lego hides but never Jenga. gives a great effect.

But like what has been said, be careful of small gaps, we had a hognose get stuck in a skulls eye and had to break the skull to get the silly snake out lol
