Went to my local pets at home and for 2.49 I got my self a cat litter tray as a water bowl for my boa. After he got in his water bowl and the water got out. Soaking the tank and leaking out of the corner of the viv onto carpet. Gotta reseal it.
A good quick fix.

I had one of these for my boa once and like you I came down every morning to find it upside down. You will be much better of using a large storage container and puting something against it like the hide, I use a large ceramic plant pot broken in half as a hide pushed against it wedging it in.
Not DIY but a great use and cheap.
