I have been advised I should be using a uv tube in my boa viv 12 hours per day as he has not eaten for a few weeks. I'm not too worried just yet but research I have done generally says this is not needed. What are your thoughts on this? I have a t5 40w fluorescent daylight from my old juwel aquarium I could put in would this help atall to save spending money on a uv? The tube I have is 895mm and my viv is 120cm is this too big? Thanks

You dont need any uv with boas but if you wanted to put one in there just for extra light it will need to be guarded.

What are your temps, setup ect like in the boas viv?

What about snakes in racks etc,More or less in the dark 27/7.I've found proper lighting cycles help the snakes etc etc.I use strips/lighting in all mine. But mainly so i can see them better hehe.

Just stick a 2.0 in there,As they really don't need it.You just want something for lighting really.

How about led lights,Will be alot cheaper then a strip and fittings etc.

I already got a strip light from my old aquarium and the tube is still good so I was going to use that even if its just like u say to see him better! Do u think a tube that is almost 3ft would be too much? Its 40w daylight tube or I have a 40w natural tube

So it's just like a 2.0 daylight strip then?In that case,it should be fine to use.

what type of viv is it?and how are you going to mount it?

Seems fine :) Just make sure it's guarded or out of reach of the snake.Alot don't bother guarding the strips etc.If he starts hanging of it,trying to get behind it etc etc.You can see how it could cause problems.

Well my boa finally ate last night! Just a coincidence that he ate after I put lighting in? I think so!
