Yes, its the old "my snake isnt eating problem". Ive read enough of these to be sick of them myself, but now its my snake and its really annoying!!

Juju hasnt eaten now since November. Hes 2 years old, and never missed a feed before then. All his temps and setup are still spot on. He was just over 1kg before he started fasting and is now 930g. Although still a good weight, that seems like a lot of weight to lose in my opinion.

Whenever I try and feed him he just ignores the food completely, he will even sit on top of it and pretend its not there. Ive tried a few different sizes of rat and even going back to mice and he still wasnt interested. I had a go at braining too. I dont think any of the scenting techniques will work, but I guess I could try them if people think they will work.

So, should I be getting worried? What should I try next?

Thank you

I wouldn't worry just yet, they can lose a lot of weight just by going to the toilet as their gut empties. It's nearly at the 10% loss of body weight but its not there yet and I wouldn't see it dropping much more than it already has.

Just perform the standard issue 'not eating' checks, make sure you're getting the correct temperatures etc, other than that I just leave Duke alone while he is fasting, handling maybe once a week to check on him, spot check the viv etc. it's just one of the things snakes do, they are great fun.

Its bloody annoyning!!! haha. He hasnt had a dump since that weight check in November. He's done a few urates, so obv still drinking. I still handle him regularly and he still has his regular wander around the viv at night time. usually sits up his log for half an hour before going back to his hide. I will cut back the handling now.

I have noticed that he never seems to be warm. His warm end is at 32 degrees and his hide is just under ceramic heater, but whenever I handle him hes always cold.... does that sound normal. Im sure he used to be warmer. When I put my hand in viv it feels warm enough in there. Think im worrying about nothing.

Fasting snakes are so frustrating!!!!!

I think our own body temps are higher than the required amount for snakes, so they will feel cooler to the touch! 32 degrees is right, so don't stress :)

if the hide is directly under the ceramic try moving it to the side as the temperature inside the hide will be lower than outside

Yeah I could give that a go, I just use a couple of bits of bark. He did used to have a big cave, but it was quite heavy and he damaged a scale on his head trying to dig a hole under the back of it. That was a long time ago though. all healed now :)
