I have a baby bearded in exactly same size tank as you have. The only reason to go longer (I've been told) is because of heat difference. Should be about 40c at basking point and 20c sonething at cool end if I remember correctly. It can be a pain to get a difference in small tank but mine does the job well.

Can't remember exact temps but when I got advise n checked my temps at the time they were spot on.

All depends on what you want really, if you were after a beardie for their size and temperament id say you'd be fine in that size viv you could also cut a hole in roof of viv to place basking lamp on top so you aren't taking any of the internal space away with bulb and guard. other than that like i said smaller dragon species would be fine in there or ground dwelling geckos such as leos and cave geckos leos have great temperaments and don't mind being handled.

Just go for the beardie the sizes of your viv aren't that far off adult size recommendations only 8" off length its just height and depth that are issues but you could always save for a larger one while its growing and transfer the equipment over at the end of the day i can't think of any other lizard that likes to interact with humans as much as they do

Well if you cut hole in roof and use a dome reflector for the basking light you'll be fine until an adult giving you time to sort a bigger viv out
