For the boa owners out there I just wanted to know how often you feed yours? I got my first boa about 12 weeks ago and he's been a bit of a fussy eater. (Only eaten twice) I was offering every week but was going to change to ever 10-14 days or so as it seems a waste to keep throwing rats away! He's 4.5ft and 1.6kg. Thanks |

What food are you offering an what are your temps? Boas are not usually fussy with food, only one i had go off food for a few weeks was not quite warm enough in his viv.
I would offer every 7-10 days at that size then every 2 weeks once hes a bit bigger My 7ft male gets fed every 2-3 weeks depending on how big the rats are |

between 33-34 he was in a rub before I'd bought him but I wasn't told and put him straight into a 4x2x2 viv and didnt eat for about 8 weeks. when I found out he was in a rub i put him in a 50ltr as i was told that was what he was in. It seemed small but it did get him eating again almost straight away so ill stick with it for now. The rub sits within the viv so I can gradually remove it and transfer him into the viv eventually. I'm offering small rats. He could probably take medium but I don't want to move him up untill he's taking small regularly |

My boa is just under 7 foot. Around 5 year old. Weighs 2.4kg and his temps are hot end between 30-33 and cool end about 23-25. And mine eats a large rat every 6/7 days without a miss. Even when in shed. He never misses a meal. In a 4x2x2 viv aswell.
Does he have many hides as I no mine like to hide away alot. |

Hi my boa is fussy eater, he is a bci nicaraguan het blood, they only get to five feet fully grown. His feeding record since I had him goes. 9/2/13 17/2 28/2 27/3 3/4 13/5 28/5 I know dwarf boas have a very slow metabolism, so I try not to worry, if he dont feed then an royal will have it. |

As soon as ours smell the rat being heated with a hair drier they are out and on the hunt. |

Yep it's still there. I really don't see what could possibly be wrong and the shop that sold him to me have been absolutely useless! |

It's a mat set to 33-34 probes on the mat. he's in a 50ltr rub as I was told by the shop the viv is be too big for him and stressing him. He has a hide at warm end and bowl at cool end and I put a few plants in to fill it out even more. To be honest I don't think he even comes out of his hide to drink anymore. He hasn't passed anything even urates in weeks |

wouldn't say a 4x2x2 is too big for him their not usually bothered by bigger space's.
i found with the boa's ive had the seemed to be happier with ceramic heating instead of a mat.
personally if it was me i would setup the viv with load's of hide's, plant's, branch's ect so that it is nice an full up then leave him completely along for a week then try offering again leaving overnight if he doesn't strike. could also try offering a large mouse as well as the rat just to see if that kick's him into feeding, covering the cool side door with a towel or something when you leave the food in there may also be worth trying. |

I found that my boa too was much happier and lively with a ceramic heater. In the viv of course. Might be worth investing into it. For the long run. At lot of space. Good heating. Steady temps good difference between hot n cold side. Will be spot on for him. |
