Does anyone have any ideas/advice on keeping royals in a viv instead of a lunch box type rub thing? currently we have them in boxes BUT would like to set up vivs for them later.I know royals are secretive burrowing beasties, would they climb/explore given the chance? Our two babies (Bugarit&Bugarum)seem to take a perverse delight in becoming 'liberty snakes'Locked viv with boxes with elastic bands round them only add to their'fun'.I thought a 'habitat'in a viv might be better for them? |

Despite being terrestrial, royals do seen to like something to climb. They can go through long periods of inactivity, but mine comes out most nights around 9-10ish for an explore and a climb. Definitely makes a better viewing experience. |

Mine like to climb but they are useless at hanging on and will fall so no great heights in their vivs! |

My royal spends most of his time at the top of his viv. He even coils his mouse hanging from a branch which is really good to watch! |

I have just had to re-arrange both my boys vivs! They love moving the furniture and swinging from the foliage! Sas is an expert at falling from his bulb guard! |
Royals - Sas, Boris & Ria Boas - 1 called Titch until we can think of a name for her! Cats - Felix, Becky, Max & Willow |

Hope this isn't a stoopid question, but as they are chunky beasties that seem to go 'thud'off their 'trees'quite nicely ami right in thinking a goodly layer of substrate would be needed? I'd hate for mine to really 'thud' |

They bounce quite well. The bigger they get the less they seem to climb, my fatty is very much a ground dweller. His branches are low level so he can climb but a fall (which they do a LOT) won't do any damage.
I keep my very secretive Royal in a well packed out viv, very occasionally I see him out and about but most of the time it's just crashes and bangs at night as he trashes his vivarium. |
