I'm having a bit of a newbie problem with prey sizes, I actually think Shirley might be eating too much! When I got her I tried her on small mice, which the shop said she was eating. I didn't really expect her to eat them though, and she missed 2 feeds. Then I tried hiding one in her favourite hide and she went to town. She actually started in the middle, made a big mess so I had to move her and it took half an hour to get to this:

But nows she's eaten my small store of mice and during the bit where I thought she might not eat I bought alternatives. Last night I went for rat fuzzies, which I though looked quite good and decided to put 2 in, just in case. The fatty ate them both. She came to me at 75g 3 weeks ago and is now 125g.

Now I'm going frozen rodent shopping tomorrow. What size rat/mouse should I buy her? I'm going to go for rats probably since she'll eat them. I just don't want to feed her too much.

To show you her progress. Here's her the first time I tried to feed her and then today.

Most people work it on a 10% of body weight. Did you weight her before or after a poo as they store poo for a while n tent to become heavier.

But if it was after a poo at 125g then your looking at something roughly 10-15g in weight.

As above, at that weight it may be hard to find rats, rat pups range from 3gm to 10gm next up would be fluffs if you can get some around that weight then cool, don't worry too much if it's a little over. Failing that could always offer two rat pups to make it up.

Royals do that alot. They go weeks without n then all of a sudden drop a bomb lol might be why the huge weight gain. If she refuses a feed it maybe because she's all pooped up lol

I was told 10% of body weight too when I asked many moons ago.
Like everyone has said the biggest problem with that is finding the correct weight. It will vary a lot depending on if they've recently done a poo.
I tend to go with sticking to a certain day after feeding to get an idea. I weigh them 2 days after eating. It's really only a rough guide but so far it's worked well for me and my royals.

Well I got some (medium?) mice at about 10g each and rat fuzzies at 10-15g so I can mix n' match a bit. Thanks guys! Good thing she can't defrost them herself, I'm pretty sure she'd eat the lot!

Sounds about right. Mine is 220g grams roughly. And is on large mice. Should be about to go up soon.
