I have this royal that refused to eat when she was born. She had a defect on her tail that caused the tip of her tail to fall off. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with her refusal to eat. She was also the runt of the clutch being only 47g when all the rest of her siblings are 65+g.

It was such a stressful experience for me to go through assist-feeding for a month before she finally coiled and ate on her own.

2 years later... she has not missed a feed ever. And she's super aggressive that she would fly out the feeding tub to grab the rat from the tongs before I have the chance of dropping it in the tub! She'd be hanging out the side of the tub with half her body and the rat in the air and her tail gripping the inside of the tub. Sometimes, she'd fly out so fast, she ends up dropping on the floor with the rat in a tight squeeze!

I tried to take a video of it but my kids refused for me to do it because they have this thing about youtube feeding videos being "made for shock factor and disrespect to the feeding process"... I know, they're a bit extreme about it. I didn't teach them that. It's just their own conclusions...

Anyway... I just want to post this to give guys that are having trouble with feeding their babies hope that in the case of my royal, she's done a complete turn-around. She's 1600g now.

I went through this with her sibling! He was a July baby, ate through his first winter and as the next winter came along, he stopped eating. He was at around 1kg then too.

Our Ria never missed a feed. Then about 6 weeks ago she stopped. She is 17mths and weighs around 1300g. Might offer her a gerbil and see how she goes.

Royals - Sas, Boris & Ria
Boas - 1 called Titch until we can think of a name for her!
Cats - Felix, Becky, Max & Willow
