Depends on the kind of gecko...

There are many types such as Leopards, Crested, Gargoyles, Ocelots, Giants, etc.

Leopards and Cresteds are the most common. Leopards are nocturnal and do not bask nor require UV light, so they are easy to care for with similar heat requirements as royals. But because they are nocturnal, they hide in their rock most of the day and go hunting at night - just like royals. They eat insects such as crickets and mealworms. Cresteds prefer it cooler - 80 Fahrenheit at the hot spot. They seem more calm than Leos but it could be just the specific leos and cresteds I saw. The cool thing about cresteds is they eat fruit, so you can feed your cresteds with the prefab crested powder food available at the stores as a staple and only feed insects as a treat.

Anyway, both leos and cresteds are easy to handle, easy to care for, and are full of personality... And it doesn't hurt too bad when they bite. :)

I have a leo and all I really do is change the water once a day, give him gut-loaded and dusted crickets and mealworms and occassional waxworm every other day, and clean out his poop corner - he only poops in one little corner spot in his 20g long tank. Makes it very easy. The kids take him out once in a while to just chill with. He's a very curious chap when handled and would try to walk all over the place which makes it really easy for him to fall off you and hurt himself... or get lost.

Snake owner since Oct 2008, so yeah, I'm no expert.

The two Dwarf's that I just picked up are great fun to watch, but very very fast so have to pay attention if the doors open. Also very easy to look after.
