Evening,

Could anyone tell me if there is there a rough guide to wattage per square ft of vivarium for a ceramic heater? For instance we have just ordered a 2' Viv for our royal would it be best to over do the wattage so the thermostat cuts in less or have a lower wattage and it be on more?

Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian, I would personally use a higher watt bulb, although ceramic heaters are very good so you don't want to go to high in a 2ft viv as you may struggle to get a good enough heat gradient within the viv.

I wouldn't say there was a hard and fast rule regarding wattage per viv size. I do believe in the idea of having a larger element so it has less work to do, like you alluded to in your post

For a 2ft'er I'd say 150w would be overkill, .i.e perfect

How do your 75w manage in 3ft vivs? Is it in a room full vivs so there's lots of heat. My 150w was struggling to get over 30degrees when winter hit, so I've stuck a 200w in.

I use 150W ceramic heaters in my 3ft vivs. When I did my initial testing with 100W I found that it struggled to get up to temp.

I'd go for 100W in a 2 foot viv and preferably a 150W for 3 foot. Just my preferences.
