Hi
I've owned my Royal for 3 weeks and he's been really placid -tolerating being picked up and handled - has shed and eaten twice - last time 2 rats Thursday night.
He has always stayed under his hide under the ceramic heater and not even come out fully to strike and eat , so I was surprised to see him curled up at the other end this morning.
I went to lift him out to clean his tank and he very clearly hissed at me , I tried again and he again hissed and looked ready to strike so I withdrew. He's now glaring at me and looks 'strike ready'!
Any ideas as to why his behaviour has changed - is he too hot - still digesting his rats etc ?
And should I ignore any hissing /striking and continue to handle - or back off as he's obviously not in the mood ! I'm just unsure what's gone wrong as he has been so easy going so far.
Thanks!

Not sure why he's started hissing, might have a shed coming up and feels a bit uncooperative!
I'd recommend to keep handling through the hisses, it's nothing to worry about I'm always being hissed at - if he starts striking though obviously don't go getting yourself bit all the time, give him time to settle down and try again tomorrow :)

Just go straight in palm first and pick him up. Try not to approach straight towards the head. Once you have him out he will probably settle down (unless he's really on a grump). Don't let his hissing make you back off or you may re enforce this behaviour (if that's even possible with a snake).
Have fun. On the bright side, if he does strike it doesn't hurt, just gives you a fright.
