So I'm planning to get my first Royal Python tomorrow, or sometime in the near future depending on the pet store. I've kept corns for about two years now and I've always been looking at Royals but they're different to corns, can you all give me some tips? I've done lots of research but not many have said about vivs in the starting/younger stages and I was wondering if you lot could tell me how you started with your Royals? I have old Starter Vivariums and heat mats and thermostats but what would you guys reccommend I do? My two corns are in large vivariums now. If you have any photos of your Royals in vivariums or their living arragements and give me tips that would be great! I like triple checking my information so it's cool if there's repeat information on here. What should the temp be? What do you prefer to keep your younger royals in RUBs or Vivs? What's your set up like? Do you have a heated rock or hide or do you use Heat mats? Do you have heat mat and a light? Please ANY and ALL information would be GREAT! If I haven't asked something but you think I should know, PLEASE tell me! I know all about how they can be picky eaters and shedding and getting them to eat again and how they need more handled support than corns because they're clumsy, I'm also going to be asking the same information at the pet store when I go next just so I can have all different feed back! Thank you for your help in advance! |

To start off if you have done all the correct research then most of the questions u just asked have been answered :( as for there set ups aslong as you have the correct size setup for the age/size of he snake then it will be fine and the set up can be as minimalistic or as complex as you like the snake is realy not going to care either way as long as the snake has a warm end and a cool end with a hide at each side and a water bowl then they will be happy as long as you dont put a hatchling straight into a 3ft viv lol personally i have 4 of my adults in a 3x2x2ft vivarium stack in my living room so they have quite nice decorative setups but i also have 2 adults in tubs that live in my bedroom they have a very minimalistic setups but they are just as happy cause they eat almost every week so its entirely up to you |

I started off with mine in a 2ft viv very packed out so felt secure, heat rocks are a no for sure.I used a heat mat until he was too big for the viv then when changed to bulbs when he went into his bigger viv. Do not use both. Hot end temp ideally 32c cold if possible 26 sometimes its difficult to get this depending on where the viv is located ie a cold room will determine the cold side temp. If you did most of your research on here you should be fine. Anymore help needed just ask. |

Remember everyone does things different, and depending on the shop in question.Double check whatever they tell you,if unsure etc.If you get a baby, you can start it of in rubs. Then slowly move up sizes, until you get a viv.or a large rub once its an adult.
If you want a viv, then over head heating is best :) led's or another form of light to light the viv etc.If you start with a rub, then use a heat mat.
