Just thinking in advance of feeding time on Saturday, I have seen some good posts and suggestions on feeding but I'm wondering how long you wait before attempts? e.g. If my new addition doesn't take its rat some suggest dipping in chicken stock. If that happens do I take the rat and dip it and try again strait away or do I try that technique a few days later?
Long and short is do I keep trying different things in one sitting out do I wait a week in between attempts?
Any advice? |

Yea, You're right. And I'm not planning on messing about at all. Tried a feed at the weekend cos she was due a feed but she didn't take - not surprising as it had only been 5 days since she was re-homed. I put her in her viv and am leaving her alone for a week.
I'm just curious if these feeding suggestions are to be tried in one sitting out wait a week or a few days between each suggestion. |

Dont over do the feeding attempts, you`ll only freak out your Royal. I know its hard when they are new. Over the years i`ve got myself into a routine that works for me, most of the time. 1. Thaw out the food item next to the vents of the viv/rub over the afternoon/evening. 2. Heat up the food item, head mainly, with a hair dryer. The smell will become more intense and if your Royal is interested in eating then you will see activity with her coming out of her hide. If theres no interest try again a week later. |

Cheers for that. Would you leave the rat in overnight at that point? |

Sorry for all the questions, and it might be futile cos hopefully she'll eat, but at what point do you try scenting? |

You can never ask to many questions.,so don`t feel you need to apologise. One of the worst things you can do is start worrying about scenting., braining etc. Some people recommend these but i`ve never found them to work. From my experience if they are going to eat then they will eat. |

Cheers hodgie, and thanks for the understanding. Like I said, it might be all for nothing come Saturday. If she doesn't eat should I avoid handling between each attempt? |

The odd bit of handling isn`t going to do any harm, but it would probably be wise to have a quiet day or 2 before feeding. |
