Hi,

My boy Noodles is scoffing well and is currently taking a small rat, around 125 - 150g, every couple of weeks.

He weighs around 1250g, maybe a bit more now since his last weigh in and I'm wondering if he's ready for a step up in feed size. The next size up is a medium rat which is about 250g which looks quite big!

What do you all think?

I'd normally be feeding medium rats around this size but only you can tell if it's right for him. Try one and see how he gets on :-)

Thanks Kelfezond, if it's too big for him, what's he likely to do? Get partially through it and then reject it? Also, if all goes well, how long would you leave between feeds?

Thanks!

I leave 2 weeks between feeds of that size, if it's too big he'll just spit it out but I'd be very surprised, although we aim for rodents of equal size to the snakes thickest part they're actually built to eat much bigger. I've accidently fed a 1500g snake on a jumbo rat I took out for a 7ft boa and she took it fine.
