Hi everyone, so one of my adult females has been off food for several months now and have tried everything I could think of, so today I decided I would have a read through the feeding post again and discovered that taking her for a drive may be the way to go. the idea is that her digestive juices will be stimulated and she will eat. So I took her out with me on the windy country roads for a 20 minute drive thinking to myself that if my mate knew what I was doing they would def be taking the mick out of me lol

I defrosted a rat weaner (small meal for her)and heated it up with the hair drier, split the head open and have left her in the dark/quite room in her rub. Fingers crossed that she eats it and I will check in the morning to see if there has been any success. I really hope this trick works. Have any of you tried this and what have been your success rate?

I will put up the results tomorrow once I have checked to see if me being a Sunday driver really worked or not

hi everyone so the results are in and unfortunately she did not eat, the next trick I am going to try that I heard may help is to soak the rat in chicken stock. Again I will post the results once I have been successful.

In my experience braining has never once worked, I don't know anybody who has had it work either, and the logic behind it is so flawed I just can't fathom why a snake would be "naturally attracted" to the smell of a rats brain, they're snakes not zombies ;)

I have heard good things about chicken stock and I've heard good thing about the juice from a can of tuna too, so might be worth a try - however 99% of the time non feeders refusing to eat is down to husbandry issues - I'd give all your temperatures a check again, if she's in a vivarium try her in a RUB for a week, if she's in a RUB try her in a vivarium, switching things up can help... Another thing that I've seen Justin Kobylka do is to change the substrate and move the snake somewhere else - his theory was that in the wild the snake would only really feed in his hide once or twice, after he digested it and pooped the hide was no good and he'd move on to the next one so a change in environment can sometimes spark their appetite again.

Also are you keeping track of their weight? If he starts to lose weight it might be worth trying an assist feed, sometimes it gets things started.

Keep us posted :D

thanks kelfezond, aye temperatures are all good and she is kept in a rub. she has only lost a few grams I presume this is because her system is empty so hope she does not lose any more. I also read Justin Kobylka feeding tips (very intresting for anyone who has not seen it) One thing that I forgot to mention was that I feed at night when its dark as I have heard this can also help. I will keep trying and will keep you all posted if I find something that work. the joys of owning royal eh lol :)
