what's the best way/most accurate way of measuring a royal? when i get him out he never stays still/straight

They can also concertina so you can't be sure. I have never tried to measure the length really, I go with weight more.

You could measure the shed length and take 10% off, this will give you a rough idea.

Also putting them in an open space against one wall will make them sit flat against it.

cheers for replies, going off weight, he is 225kg at the moment, will try a few methods mentioned for measuring size
