I have the warm end in Tilly`s viv at 90f outside the hide but i have read a few threads where people have their probes inside the warm hide. Where is the right place to have it. I was thinking that to have 90F inside the hide it would be way too hot outside. |

i think it is personal choice Remmy,
my theory is if it is inside the hide then it might not be accurate as it can pick up the snakes body heat and give an incorrect temp reading..
i have mine outside...and my royals seem ok on it.. |

Does that mean that your temperatures are lower inside the hide then, or does it mean that the temp outside the hide is higher to get the temp needed in the hot hide.
as what i have found is when the prob is in the hide and it gets to 32, often the temperatures on top of the hide are between 36-39, but if i put the prob on top of the hide the temp in the hide is around 28-30 |

My probe is on the substrate next to the hide so the temp inside the hide is lower. When i get her out i am going to put the therm probe inside to see what the temp is. |

Depends on the heat source. If you heat with mats then the heat within the hides can hit scary heights as heat rises (so effectively collects in the hide). I have seen surface temps of 30C = 40+ inside the hides. If you are heating using air heaters, ceramics/bulbs/radiators etc, then I measure outside the hides. |

I have my probe (using a heatmat) inside his hide. They only poblem is that the little guy sometimes lies on it which makes the temp appear to be less than it actually is, or he moves the thermostatprobe so that it is suspended above the substrate making the temps go up to almot 38. Any tips? |
