I;ve tried twice with rats now to no avail, he's just not interested

They;re the same colour and shape as mice just bigger and yet he will sleep next to it
what can i do to get him to take them

I'm guessing he takes mice ok then?

You could try rubbing a mouse all over it or defrosting them together to try and get the rat to smell mouse-like.

If all else fails put a mouse jacket on the rat, bit disgusting but works. Or pop the mouse guts on a rat.
