Hi
My snakes girth is 4 inches. I've been feeding him large mice. Should i be feeding him something bigger now?
Many thanks Sherrie |

move onto a similar sized rat weaner then start moving up. for royals a prey item as wide as the snake is at it's widest point is fine |

you need rats, 10%/15% of the snakes body weight, so around 42g would be suitable for your snake |

how old is your royal?
might be worth scenting it with a mouse before you offer it...
if you have any mice left put a rat weaner in the freezer bag with the mice till your ready...
you will only really need a medium weaner 40-50g |

As with the above posts I'd be offering rats around 40-50g. |

Well we offered him a weaner, they were a lot larger than the usual mice we give him, he had a good look an a good sniff but decided he wasnt interested. Might go back to the mice. Was thinking about maybe feeding him more frequently instead, is this a good idea? |

try putting the rat in with a mouse and leaving it to get the scent of the mouse...maybe drop down a size in weaners so it does not look so big to him... |

just scent the first few rats with mouse blood, works a treat. Your snake needs to learn that the new smell is food |
