I thought i would show off my new stack that i have made from a old office cabinet.

It is going to house my 2 Royals in the middle and top ones and my male Corn in the bottom one.

It is heated using 60w reflector lamps and one dimmer stat.

Cabinet with doors inside...(it is upside down in pic)

All fittings removed and holes filled, doors cut to size and shelf holders fitted...

Vents holes cut out and cable holes drilled...

Doors fitted as dividers to make the floor/roofs of the viv's and baton added to raise the glass runners off the viv floor...

Runners added, Viv sealed and varnished. Left for a few days for any fumes to dissapate...

Light fitting added, probe positioned and guard fitted...

Digital thermometers added and glass doors put in...

Positioned and switched on to set temps...

Hope you like it...

cheers all...

yeah the heat transfer is there again...currently i have the dimmer stat probe in the bottom viv and it is set to 29.7*C. But it is 36.5*C in the middle and 42.3*C in the top. All temps are ground level.

Leaving it over nite to see if it drops, but i have been and got some polystyrene tiles to make a false floor which should cure it. Will keep you posted.

As for cost...excluding all the electric's, digital thermometers, guards and stat it cost me about £50-ish.

Cheers guys... They are very easy to make. Apart from cutting the doors into shelves to size its just glueing everything in and drilling a few holes...

Will sort out a sticky for the DIY section.

Also got some pic's on the home made guards aswell if anyone is interested...(hope you dont mind Dave...

Looks great. we should have a pic comp for the best looking home made vivs.LOL
heat transfer is a bit of a pain though. You could probably get away with out using the lamp in the center viv and using the heat transfer from below. then that would settle you top temps as well? maybe

Did you find the temps stabilized? I find my upper tanks very rarely have any heat on due to rising heat. I do find that once the temps are up to spec the amount of soak reduces (as the bulbs aren't on full whack anymore)
