Having now been firmly (re) bitten (no pun intended) by the Herp' bug.
I'm already thinking of getting another.
I've been looking about and I really like the look of some of the Boas I've seen.
Any advice, suggestions, and information from any of you would be much appreciated.
(sorry if I have missed a topic on this all ready)
I should have said I no next to nothing about keeping Boas, and point out that this is still just a thought in it's VERY early stages with no real plans to progress this side of Christmas!!!! |

Dwarf boas make a good idea as they don't grow to such huge girths/lengths as normals. Easy to keep, easy to feed. Mine was Satans daughter but I'm sure there are nice ones out there. |

You want one, you know you do!

I've had Feather for a couple of months and she's been an absolute star! She's very laid back when she's handled apart from once when she was about to shed. Normally I wouldn't have handled her then, but I missed when she went blue so I didn't realise. She also eats like a dustbin! She will probably reach about eight feet when she's fully grown.
Have a look at the care sheet here: http://www.redtailboas.com/general_care/general_care.html loads of good information.
<edit> Unlike a royal, you actually get to see boas! |

Not at all if you're happy with the size they get to when adult. The requirements for a BCI are similar to those for a royal, 50 - 60% humidity (conveniently the UK average!), about 30 - 32c in the warm end and a couple of hides.
I don't think the fact that they look good is a bad reason to want one, it's better to have a snake that you're interested in. You just need to be aware that they get quite large when fully grown. That's why I wanted to get a baby, my experience will grow with her. Everything I've read has said that they're really tame if handled regularly, and Feather seems to be so much happier to be held than Princess. While Princess always seems to be looking for a route back to her cave, Feather will have a bit of an explore then get comfy and doze for a while. Boas rock! |

Thanks for all the info, I think I'll get a book about them (specifically) and then start with more questions later.
Chris, I've been sat thinking "Feather is an odd name for a snake!!"
Just got it!
I'm such a schmuck at times |
