hey, i have had a number of snakes, and recently my little brothers and sisters have been asking me if they can hold Boo, my baby Royal Python. She is really tame and happy, but my mum dont think its a good idea for me to let them because she is worried about the fact it a constrictor snake and has teeth. she is an overparanoid mother .
I have a large spare viv with everything in it for a snake setup, i collect all the stuff i dont put in my other vivs. I was thinking about getting a green snake. they dont have any teeth and they dont get much thicker than a pencil. Also they are quite friendly snakes.
what do you think and if anyone has one their views would be much appriciated thanks.

Rough/Smooth green snakes? You will struggle to find these CB. They are insectivores and definatly arnt snakes that will tolerate handling.

Have they definately not got teeth? Most insectivores do and they are like little needles.

If I had to give you the ideal snake a kid can get used to, I would say a royal. They are fat, slow, shy, wont bite and will just sit there.

I've just been thinking about the whole teeth thing and it must have them otherwise it wouldn't be able to hang on to a lot of the heavily armoured inverts in it's diet.

Just found this quote "..... it simply grasps food with its tiny recurved teeth and swallows prey alive."

Yep. I quite agree. Just gotta make sure that the little ones get used to handwashing before and after handling.

basically anything that's non-venomous is likely to be a constrictor..........

i think a royal meets all the requirements really, as long as the stress doesn't cause any problems for the snake

agree with Ali on the stress bit,

royals are great snakes, but its the stress factor on a young snake that might be a problem..

corns are friendly to, but i think royals are better...

if it's just the constrictor bit, then get a Garter, they ain't constrictors. They do have teeth, but don't tend to use them. Make sure it's already on mice though.
