I have just read all the messages that everyone else has posted regarding your snake striking at you. I am wondering if perhaps he could scent some other animal on your clothing so he suddenly felt under threat. Either that or was there something that moved suddenly in the room that may have triggered the response in an already stressed snake? When we first got our snakes we always used the same handwash and even fabric conditioners etc so that it became a familiar scent. We do not do that now but just for the first month or so we did. I hope your snake settles soon :) |

Lee: thanks for stat info. I'm in St George, just got flat here with girlfriend. She from Bristol & Im from Lyme Regis so I don't know all parts of Bristol yet!
Debbie: Good thinking. I did feed and stroke my ferrets when I left Lyme. I then came back to Bristol and later on was when he bit (although washed hands plenty, ferrets have strong scent!) So prob that added to him already unsettled? And you think the follow up missed strike the next day was him still not coming down from his defence mode?
As I type this the thermo-hygro o'meter has arrived through letter box. Any tips on putting that in with minimal disturbance? Don't wanna get bit again, got hell of a bruise and fang marks on inside my right bicep! |

Ok so just came back from Jurassic with Xlarge water bowl (you guys all seem to have them), Xlarge hide (to replace shoe box) and stat (microclimate ministat 100).
I put the sensor for thermometer and stat in the back left of the viv (where the mat is. Is this ok? Ill use the less accurate analogue thermometer for the cooler end to get idea of that temp end.
Have not put new water bowl or hide in (weary of having to open fully one door of viv and getting bit. Shall i brave it and replae now or wait for a week then exchange them when (hopefully) he is more used to his surroundings?
Digital readings so far at warm end: 28.1C & 38% humidity.... Any advice?

The sensors are just placed on top of the substrate if my last post wasn't clear. I can upload photos if any one wants to see? |

What the viv looks like now with towel covering roof of viv.

Here are the sensors for the stat and thermometer. It was suggested that the mat will be sufficient for heat. However the digital thermometer is only 23.6C at the warm spot, is that too cold? If so please advise! |

As I said I don't wanna go in there and replace new bowl and hide just at the moment unless anyone has tips on doing this without getting bit! |

Yer will do thanks. Lee2308 has offered me a wooden 2ft viv which may keep heat better, eliminating need for ceramic bulb? Or if I keep glass one I will have to get ceramic bulb. |

Yer its really good he is coming around. I want to thank the rest of you for your advice too, its been really helpful. Once I have everything sorted later i'll put a photo on this forum so you guys can see his new home!
I wondered how long it would be before someone mentioned the Man Utd towel! HAHA.
Oh yeah, any name suggestions are welcome! I was gonna call him cuddles but given the other day I don't think its entirely appropriate! |
