This weekend we upgraded her from her faun to a 50l RUB, with help from the article on here about how to set one up. She had a good old explore and then slept sprawled out across the middle, presumably taking advantage of all her extra space! Hopefully once she's outgrown that she'll be OK to go into her adult viv.

She's really grown since we got her, and already has quite a grip when she's holding on. Temperament wise she's brilliant and, fingers crossed, has never refused a meal. Go on, get a boa...

Feather's probably a similar age to Betty, we got her at Doncaster show in June but I forgot to ask when she was born. I think she's about two and a half feet but it's not easy to tell for sure.

She has nipped me once when we'd only had her a week or so, we had a couple of friends round who hadn't seen her so I got her out to show them. I think she was still dozy when I picked her up because she nearly fell off my hand, and I later found out that she was about to shed and I'd missed seeing her blue phase, plus there were new people looking at her. Whatever it was, she was not a happy snakey and got quite hissy so I put her back into her house. As she was going in she turned and bit me twice before shooting back into her cave. It didn't hurt, I thought she'd butted me until I saw the blood, although it did sting a bit afterwards. A couple of hours later when it was dark and quiet I got her out again and she was fine, she's been an angel ever since.

By the way, have you seen the care guide here? http://www.redtailboas.com/general_care/general_care.html I think it's great!

She's still at it! This was taken at weekend, I think it's safe to say that she'll overtake Princess this year.

Thanks for the compliments, we love her!

Mischang: Have a look at the care guide I posted a bit further up. The requirements are pretty much the same as for a royal, although she is going to need a larger viv!

If you're not put off by the adult size I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a BCI, she's really laid back and eats everything she's offered.

thx chris have read through it , and i know i could give one a home inreguards to the life time commitment and the max viv size i have is a double 5ft one its like 5ft long 24inches deep on top of each other which would be easy to drill through and jigsaw a hole , and rig it up so that one floor is warm other cooler or both floors a hot spot etc , but and it really is a BUT depending upon final adult size my partner works away from home for weeks at a time and would that be fair on the adult not been handled, i dont mind handling alone but if it gets to a 10ft how could i get around this ???but then in 4 years he wont be workin away when he hits 40 lol so it would be ok , so am i wondering am i worring about nothing or could it reach an aduly size before then ?

It's important to remember that boas can reach 11 feet in the same way that people can reach 7 feet tall. Sure it happens, but it's pretty rare. I'm feeding Feather fairly conservatively, so hopefully she'll top out at 7-8 feet.

I think they grow fairly slowly compared to pythons, so probably about five years to get to adult size. That said they are extremely strong snakes, pound for pound much stronger than a python, so once it starts getting towards six feet or so you probably want your partner there with you for handling sessions.

You could also look at Crawl Cay or Hogg Island boas, they look virtually identical to a common but stay a fair bit smaller.

Hi Simonas. She's shedding about every six weeks at the moment and is just about a year old, so I'm dropping her feeds down to once a fortnight. She was out looking for her dinner last night and I imagine she was disappointed when it wasn't forthcoming!

That's an unfair question! I like having both because they're so different, but if I *had* to choose it'd probably be Feather. She's out and about more, she's more relaxed when handled, and she always eats.

I wouldn't be without Princess though, I still think that royals are one of the nicest-looking snakes and it does feel like a treat when she ventures out of her cave and we get to see her.

She's a normal BCI. She was more grey when she was a baby but as she's growing her colour's becoming more yellow and her belly and sides are getting pink.
