Can anyone tell me, would a ceramic heat bulb 250w be able to push heat down 3ft or can it be mounted lower down.

You've got to realise that large spaces freak Royals out, its not just about what you want, sorry. Obviously its your decision at the end of the day, just saying what I would do.

Plus, they're not great climbers, I wouldn't want one to fall 3'.

true..... i used to laugh hysterically every time my royal used to fall off his branch..........and it was a regular occurance.......fortunately it was only a 9" drop onto orchid bark!!

and the last person that i'm aware of that wanted his royal in a viv cos he liked vivs, despite the huge increase in space/size to what the royal had been used to, ended up returning that particular snake as a non-feeder............
returned to an appropriately sized enclusure the royals immediately resumed feeding again...........

You original question was answered in that even if it doesn't it can be mounted lower, you were also given additional information. Please drop the attitude, this isn't the forum for that.

Thanks.

The heat is emitted kind of like a triangle...the higher above the floor of the viv, the wider spread of the heat. Mounting it 3 foot above the floor might cause the temp gradient to be out, as the spread would be greater. I have 250's mounted in my 3x2x2's and the gradient seems ok.

However...if you did find that you were not getting a good thermal gradient you could, (as GP said) buy a angled fitting or bracket type fitting and mount it lower down to reduce the spread of heat.

Hang it lower from a pendant fitting and fit a reflector with one of the mesh covers over the opening to stop snakey cuddling the ceramic? I've gotta agree with the others about reducing the height of the viv though.

Dave: Why haven't you posted any pics of your beasties on the Large bodied lizards section of the reptilian yet? I'm getting very lonely there mate
