ok this is my viv . 30"x 24 x24 orchid bark ( not everyones fave but thats what im gonna try 1st .. i'll make sure i lay food on a log )3 hides one med rock hide one small rock hide ( above heat mat) one coconut hide in the middle. it looks a little over crowded but im going to send off for a 09 royal from 888. think i need to put a smaller water dish in though that ones 8" by 6"? . got a digital thermometer and hydrometer where is the best place to put the probes ? and where is the best place to put the probe for the thermostat ? stuck on the side or in the ground ?

Looks good, nice and crowded. It may be a bit too large (floor area) for a baby royal. I would seriously consider partitioning it in half until he grows a bit more.

I secure my therm probe to the ground under warm hide.

Agreed, the more crowded and smaller the better for a Royal

The water bowl should be ok, just try to keep the water about as deep as the snake.

Where is the heat mat? Have you got the thermostat probe inside the viv sitting on or under the orchid bark?

What temp does thermometer say?

the heat mat is running from the coconut hide at the front down to the back hide so its all on the left .. ive got the probe for the thermostat and the thermometer stuck on the side of the viv about 2" above the bark in the middle of the mat. its at 21.2 now ive set it for 25 . thermometer says 70.7

I'd put the probe on top of the bark as that will be where your snake will spend most of the time. Especially as mats dont heat the air as well as bulbs just the surface there touching
