ok so we got him a new 3ft viv an set up it looks great, but for some reason he now sleeps on top of his hide on the cool side during the day. In his old viv he always slept under the hide on the warm side (on the heat mat) Any idea why??

Have you only changed vivs recently? I ask because with how hot its been the last couple of weeks my royal's been spending much more time at the cool end of the tank than the hot. You might find that when the weather settles down a bit he migrates back to the warm end again :)

he'll just be settling in again so will take that wee bit of time to get comfortable. and as long as you have a nice temp range i wouldn't worry were he settles.
