thinking of moving coco from a heatmat to a ceramic lamp.
the snake is kept in a vivexotic vx36 vivarium. just wondering what lamp i'd need wattage wise? i don't want to get one stupidly powerful if i don't need that.
also, i know dimming thermostats are best with bulbs but will this also be okay for the ceramic lamp?
and finally, are these bad boys easy to fit? how far would it need to be from the roof and sides of the viv? i don't want it to burn it! lol, thanks in advance! :)
Dead easy to fit. Don't get ripped with buying expensive fitting. You can get a ES fitting from maplins for about 3-4 quid. The bulb just srews in. Connections at the fiting end don't matter. The plug end is as per usual. You only need a strip of lighting flex. Mount the heater to one side of the viv, mark in about 4-5 inches off the wall for your center mark. Make sure your heat guard fits over and clears the ceremic on all sides. And clears the wall. Screw the fitting into place, bulb in place and guard over the top. Hey Presto. Should look like this
0.1.0 Royal Python 0.0.1 Mexican Black King 1.0.0 Brazilian Rainbow Boa
You can use a Dimming Stat yes, or a Pulse Proportional. As above, 100W will heat a 3' viv, although some people go to a higher wattage so that the bulb doesn't have to work so hard and lasts longer. With ceramics, make sure you get ceramic fittings, not plastic ones that may melt.
