I know this isn't the correct forum but i'm in need of some desperate help.

I am looking after a hognose for a friend of mine. He is 16 months old and currently weighs in at 24g.
He hasn't eaten for quite a few months although holding steady at 27g.
Within the past week his eyes clouded as per shed (first for 4 months) yet no shed even after his eyes have cleared.

Temps and husbandry is fine, he is currently in a rub with good heat and water with a decent amount of substrate and a moss pot.

We have tried everything to get him to feed, and i mean everything.
I have tried assist feeding a few times with no joy. My only thought now is force feeding. I am going to try him on some Komodo Retalive (http://www.netpetshop.co.uk/p-28059-komodo-revitalive-reptile-stomach-ph-aid-5-sachets.aspx) tonight and leave a pinkie in his cave with him. Failing that it's a force feed on sunday

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully recieved

www.thehognosesnake.co.uk/forum our sister site should be better placed to help.

Or you could PM Kazerella on http://www.thereptilian.co.uk/forum/index.php as she has a small Hoggie too.

Hi, I don't know how it is in the UK, but in Florida, there's a bunch of frogs jumping around by the pond in my backyard. My hognose refused rodents. So I gave him a frog and he gobbled it up in 5 seconds. I was planning on rubbing a rodent on a frog next time to slowly bring him back to rodents but since I got an abundance of frogs, I didn't bother.

Maybe you can try the same thing?

Tied frogs, tried toads as well. Nothing.
Although last night with a bit of help he shed. I noticed a blister like mark on his tail and it turned out to be a shed. He couldn't or hasn't done it so did it for him. Got everything including eyecaps. As soon as it sarted coming he did it himself.

A good sign i suppose

My wee hoggie did this for a while too, its just how the males are. I got him feeding again by stopping handling and I put a wee dish in his tank with two warm pinkies on it and covered his tank with a dark jumper and they were gone 10 minutes later. Its also worth noting that hognoses are diurnal so they normally feed during the day as opposed to night time...

How packed out is the tank hes in? Males are more nervous than females so like a bit more cover till they find their confidence :-)

My wee chap now feeds no problem without all the palaver.

He is more active now i have taken the shed off.
He's not packed at all. Not too much space either.
He is currently in a breeding tub inside my Royals Viv. Odd i know but neither seem to mind much.

If he's not eating, then yea, he probably minds. He's probably stressed out by the proximity of a bigger snake that may be crawling over his tub at night...

Not saying this is the reason, but it is a possibility.

Well since he has been in with Sabre he has eaten twice, shed once and is now putting weight on.
I'm guessing this is down to heat as he is directly below a ceramic and half on a heat mat. So likes it really really warm. HE sits around 31-32 and is doing well.

Fully agree, he has a viv in the making. If you check out the thread about the corn i got yesterday he is getting half of that. But i'm going to give him at least another feed first. Even when he does move over i'll keep him in the rub for a few weeks. I thought royals were meant to be a pain. Lol

Unfortunatly Lil man died tonight.

He was doing really well too. It was a complete freak accident that envolved a guarded ceramic. No one knows how it happened and every precaution was taken to stop it. But it happened. 27 years old and it had me in pieces.

RIP lil fella :(

I'm so sorry to hear that - and after all your care and hard work too. That's dreadful news. Extremely sorry for your loss.
