Hi,

I currently have my 2 snakes in RUBS (see pics below). This is the first time I have used RUBS/tubs etc for animals as I usually like to build my own vivs. Being honest I love the practicality of the RUBS and being able to hose them clean etc but aesthetically I am not so keen, especially since they sit in a spare bedroom and look a bit out of place. I am now planning to build or buy a double viv at some point in the future.
Since I have plenty of time to plan ahead I wanted to ask about heating. I have read some threads about snakes being burned on heatmats placed inside their vivs and with a wooden viv I'd need to put the heatmat inside the viv so would I be best to plan to use a heatbulb with guard etc rather than a heatmat?

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Here's some of my vivs I built:-

Ah, there's a BIG debate about this on page 2 of general keeping.

And there's a sparkling and pithy account on this same page about installing heatbulbs, entitled 'Dimmer stats for the dim'. (Writer was VERY dim, if you ask me!)

Reading through it, almost sorry I asked now but some great points raised. I'll definately be fitting bulbs when I get wooden vivs.

Thanks again,
Brian.

I prefer infra red bulbs with guards obviously and a dimmer stat much safer and you can see the snakes too :)

Infrared or Red night bulbs? Roylas being nocturnal do not require an infrared light source at night and I thought a red night bulb was recommended for this.

Infra red to provide the heat source, they glow red so you get a light source too
