I think that's very good and comprehensive advice; however I'd add that any 'rags' should first be sterilised in boiling water and thrown away after one use ... personally I'd use cottonwool or kitchen roll.

I don't recognise any of the soaps or disinfectants named, but of course it's a US site ... the disinfectants I've been using have been Milton, and, nowadays, F10. I have two big plant spray containers filled with weakest solution F10, for swabbing down after spot cleaning, or squirting feeding rubs before swilling with hot water.

Personally I'd be very wary of using bleach, even in weakest solution, around reptiles, but I know there are varying opinions on this.

Again, this is my personal choice, but I clean out drinking bowls in hottest tap water. If I found that a snake had defecated in a bowl, I'd wash in hottest tap water, squirt well with the F10 solution and wash again in hot water.

Sorry - don't know if you want info added to the site or just opinions on it lol.

well im not bothered bats i was just looking on the ite after eeing the thread and i couldnt find 1 on cleaning so i thought it mite have been a good idea to see what ppl thought about it n see if the info was correct, if everyone agreed i was just goin to copy and paste i or ee if 1 of the admins would and do it as a sticky thread,

i clean my viv out properly 1 a month and do spot cleans whenneeded but i use a solution what i got from the petshop called cascade cleanin disinfectant, where do you guys get the f10 solution from and is called f10?

when doing a spot clean i remove the poop and and tough bit and any aspen round it disinfect it and the get a damp tissue and wipe let dry and then put aspen bk.

when im doing a main clean i get rid of all aspen hover it remove any tough bits witha scraper if needed and then difinfect the whole viv and get a damp towel and wipe, then put al the decor in the sink put the plug in and put boiling water over it from the kettle then let soak , disinfect and then rinse, then put the aspen bk in the viv and then all the decor.

Hi, yes, it's called F10. When I first heard of it I thought it was a specialist reptile disinfectant. I'd heard good reports of it, and as I buy bulbs, bedding etc in bulk from Blue Lizard, and they had it on special offer, I got some. As soon as I made up the solution, I realised it was the stuff that every vet uses. If you've ever taken an animal to the vet's and they're swabbing down the table as you go into the consulting room, and there's that nice clean smell ... that's F10.

So (to cut a long story short!) I should think you could get it at your local vet's, or a local rep shop, or Blue Lizard. They're very reasonable; I get £50 worth of stuff at a time to qualify for free delivery.
