Since Orlina shed she's no interest in mice or rats. She comes out ready and waiting and when I go in with a mouse or rat she sneeks up smells it and goes away from it no interest at all and if I go a little closer to her she retreats back into her hide until I took it out.
I was talking to her previous owner and she said her favourite food are multimammetes. I've found a website that does them. Are MM's good enough to feed all the time or just as 1 off type o thing? |

Hi. sorry to hear she's not feeding, but I gather it's something a lot of royals stop doing at this time of year - more experienced people will be able to advise you better than me though.
Multimammates are what royals may well prey on in the wild - as far as I know it's fine to feed them permanently. The only drawback may be the high price. Although the frozen firm I use, A&N in Suffolk, supplies multimammates in all sizes - pinks at 28p to large £1.00. Considering I paid £2 each for a couple of small rat weaners locally, those are good prices for multis, and the rat and mouse prices are really cheap.
So if you can find a good cheap supply, there's nothing to stop you, I shouldn't think. Better still if you know other people in the area with snakes you could club together and share delivery?

| The problem with Multi`s is that they are very addictive to Royals so if you get some start scenting rats with them and you should be able to get your Royal to swap over with a bit of luck. |

Well couldnt get multi's they wanted you to order the equivalent to 200 medium mice to stop them thawing......dont think I'd be forgiven by taking over the freezer lol
Anyway she's finally took something and waiting for more. Decided not to buy a rat weaner this time incase it was the smell that she wasnt interested in so just bought xl mice, took her about half an hour to take it and 2 missed (by a mile) strikes but got there in the end she looks like she'll take more so fingers crossed |

Aww glad she's taken a meal!
Couldn't help laughing re freezer - with my last delivery I over-estimated a bit and had to find a new home for the ice cream ... my new freezer arrives tomorrow (d'oh, going to be taking up space I could use for a viv ... facepalm ...facepalm ...)
These frozen rodents are taking over the planet ... or at least planet BATS!
On a more serious note - what area are you in? Could be a good idea asking on this and other snake forums to see if there are other single-snake owners with same requirements as Orlina who would be prepared to share a bulk delivery with you - it's much much cheaper. |

I feed multimammates, more commonly referred to as African Soft Furred Rats (or ASF) in the States. I raise my own ASF rats.
On the imprinting thing - I've had my snakes for 2 years and when I run out of appropriate sized ASFs to feed off, I would buy a regular rat from the store and all my snakes would take them without a problem. I haven't had a snake that wouldn't go with either ASF or regular rat. |

I had a look on the members map on here and no one is close to me. I was talking to the man at the shop he says theres quite a few snake owners buying their mice from him but he doesnt know if they're royals or where they are from (a lot of help he was eh lol).
She likes the mice, Ive never had a problem feeding until she shed, but I know I cant keep her on them because its taking 4 xl mice to make up the weight she should be eating now. I'll leave her on the mice for now then start trying to make the switch to rats again in a few weeks |

| Just read an idea from Royalbob, get some fresh hamster/gerbil bedding out of a cage at the pet shop and leave the rat in with it a while before feeding. Think I'll give it a try she might finally go to the rats |
