i have searched to see if this is answered elsewhere but cant find anything so...

my royal (aprx 2 y/o male) was making some very light hissing noises occasionally. i thort maybe he's just P!55ed off but he is very used to being handled so, airing on the side of caution i treated it as though it was a R/I. If it WAS it was very minor (no bubbles, no open mouth breathing, no popping and wheezing) so i just adapted his viv to treat it and after 3 days he seemed fine until the other day i noticed his skin was very baggy when he bent. his eyes are clouded and skin is dull so he is almost definitely well into a shed cycle its just he hasnt displyed that kind of skin texture before. I thought it could be in someway linked to the increased humidity but cant see how, thats just the only thing ive changed. he is drinking ok, pooing normally and seems happy and active. just get a bit concerned ( as we all do im sure) and thort id get a few opinions.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm afraid I've never encountered an RI (touch wood) and I can't advise on the baggy skin either, but from reading on here I gather royals can make strange nasal noises when going into shed, due to loose skin round their nostrils. Good luck with him!

well i never knew that! everydays a school day eh!? that would make sense as he didnt seem affected in any other way and last time (he had a R/I last year) he was very different. cause he had one before i think i went straight into panic mode! incidentally the vet checked out his viv and said everything seemed fine and it was very unlucky he got ill last time, so he shouldnt really be prone to it. thanks man, put my mind at rest a bit!

once he's shed ill try get a photo on i think, when he's looking all gorgeous again!

yeah he had a swim last night and i made sure he had some extra sphagnum moss in one of his hides. His eyes are completely blue/white so im expecting a shed probably 26/27th. I didnt feed him cause he didnt seem to be hunting after his swim and he normally makes it pretty clear when hes hungry!

his last shed was a little patchy so ive made sure hes got a bit of extra moisture this time and hopefully i can get some good photos for you guys! thanks for all your help

Hiya benji, my humidity sits about 50-55. I wait for the eyes to clear after the blue phase then put some damp moss under the hot hide and give rub a light spray. Takes it to about 65 obviously more under hide and gives a clean shed every time.
