Hi again, As i said in my other post, Flo has had some feeding issues of late and i have to confess, i dont know her weight. Neither do i own any scales apart from some old and utterly inaccurate kitchen scales. So...What do you use? what do you recommend i buy? and more importantly, how do i go about weighing her?
I did consider putting her in a sock and hanging her up with hubbies fishing scales but suspect she may not speak to me after that!!! |

Umm, I honestly don't think snakey would resent being put in a pillowcase and being hung from the fishing scales - sounds like a good idea, and not too undignified from the snake's point of view. It's only like weighing a baby?
I got some digital scales from Argos (Salter, £10) and honestly I'm not sure if I'm keeping them. Flimsy, unpredictable (unless I didn't read the instruction leaflet right ...)
I got Saada out and she wasn't very pleased. 'Just curl up in a ball on top of these, darling.'
'Won't! Wanna go back in the viv!'
The scales registered zero. Saada got her way ...
Sorry, Saada!
Think I might take them back and invest in some sturdier (and more expensive) scales ...
Hey! Or fishing scales! Snakey can't squirm about and escape when hung up in a pillowcase - could be a really good idea?? |

Ah! pillow case...now thats thinking outside the box, or sock in our case! I was thinking that getting her to ball up and stay on the scales would be the tricky bit, sit and stay dont tend to work on her like they do on the dogs!
Will check out ebay!
Thanks guys! |

I have just ordered some rather posh digi kitchen scales online. Got a sale bargain, they were £55 down to £20 so they should be good.
I can't wait to weigh Nimbus, as sad as that may sound lol |

LOL - did try that - but with the rub centred on the scales, the ones I've got are so small that the edge of the rub obscures the reading. Also, I couldn't GET a reading - it kept on saying zero ...d'oh!
It just made a better story about how she came out nicely balled up, which she did, and if the damn scales had worked, she would have sat there for a moment and been weighed, no trouble, but of course by then the spirit of adventure had overtaken her (she didn't just want her viv, she wanted my shoulder, everywhere, think she's half corn lol) plus I felt guilty for disturbing her in her hide.
I think these scales I've got are too small, and may possibly be faulty. Also the fishing scales sound ideal for weighing a bigger snake - no way could I have fitted Surahi, even without a rub, on those Salter things.
LOL - I feel just like you, Louise, I can't wait to know the precise weights of my lot either! |

Right, so, I've been shopping and being the class bird that i am i went to Asda! I got the best digi scales they had but since Flo hasnt eaten in a while and tonight I'm preparing a little dish for her i thought i would leave the scales episode untill later. I have also sorted a small royal sized plastic tub that came with holes in....Perfect mini weighing rub! |

If you need some scales with a larger plate on top then ebay search for postal/parcel scales. I have a set of kitchen scales for the little corn but when my royal arrives I'll be borrowing the scales from work (I run a Post Office) for an accurate weight. In fact lets start a scary trend, bring your snake to the Post Office to be weighed. I'd like that but I don't think my staff would agree. PMSL. |

Cool, glad you got her SORTED LOL!
(Read your entry in BE's weight thread - nice weight - did you see my post about fatboy slim Shahi and my tiny Saada - year older than Shahi and only 10gm heavier! Mind you the way that girl's eating she ought to be putting it on - she's the only one of my royals not to have done the big fast ... the other two are getting the corns to eat their school dindins for them lol!) |

Yes i read that, just shows how much they can vary. I'm not going to reach the paranoic levels that i was heading for now that i have read some others posting about fasting and weight. Its kind of comforting to know its common for them to fast. x |
