I'm the same, but I'm sure they will cut it straighter and neater than I ever could, plus its 25 pieces I honestly couldn't be annoyed cutting so many. If I could find someone to put it together for me for free I'd get that done too, lol. I'm trying to work out the best way to fix it together, I've settled on PVA and screws but now I have to decide what size how many etc, its doing my nut in but I'm getting there. I realised a stupid mistake I've had to put right, I had no access to the plugs once its bolted to the wall so have made a quick alteration to allow access underneath in a crisis. |

for 18mm mdf i would use 3.5 x 35mm screws. come in about 20mm from the ends and then a screw about every 200mm |

Thanks for that. I'm clueless when it comes to the building process. |

and also you wouldn't really need the glue. we don't use it when making wardrobes or kitchens out of mdf. the screws will be enough but its down to personal choice |

I started out using glue but got fed up of cleaning up the bits that oozed out when i tightened up the screws so i gave up!
If you use turbo gold screws from screwfix they dont need pilot holes....bonus! I love self tappers! |

i would still recomend drilling pilot holes in my professional opinion lol
we use self tappers at work and they do sometimes split the mdf if not pilot drilled |

OK had a bit of a redesign and I'm so glad I did now, I've abandoned some of the shelves and turned it into another vivarium with 2 cupboards instead as I'm now going to be getting a crested gecko in a month or 2 so here are my superdooper vivstack plans mark II.
This is the final design now, I am not getting anymore animals (well a tarantula maybe coming home soon but that won't have a vivarium, maybe it will live in the cupboard, lol. |

Bob - that is blinding me with science and looks brilliant!
However (and forgive me if I'm talking nonsense, not being the world's greatest technical genius) -
I notice you've got Spot's warm end next to Duke's cool end.
I once did this - I had Shahi's and Saada's vivs next to each other, and Shahi's warm end was next to Saada's cool end ... did that bugger up Saada's cool end temps or what? I had to move the vivs apart to get Saada's temps right ...
Just a fiddling point, and I know I'm no expert, but ... |

would only do that if spot was on a bulb, but because hes on a mat it wont raise the air temps much, so should be fine |

I figured the transfer from Duke's ambient to Spots ambient wouldn't be a vast amount (it would only be that way not the other as mats are contact heaters as Danny says). I was going to use a ceramic in the corn viv too but its overkill so just going to have him on a good quality mat instead and give him LEDs for his light, oh I'm in talks with the light manufacturer about a rig that dims the lights by timer & A REMOTE, I know I know totally unnecessary but just too cool and will provide full light in the day, a moon glow in the evening and switch off totally at night, if it was any more pimped it would bounce like a lowrider.
I'm well prepared for the high humidity, after a few coats of a white base coat the entire thing is getting 4 coats of Yacht varnish, it means a mass move out of the living room for the fumes and a few weeks without occupation but totally worth it for its ability to stand up to anything thrown at it. |
